What's the Great White Throne Judgment?

The great white thrown judgment is the final judgment of the dead, according to God's Word in the book of revelation and is the most serious, sobering and tragic event described in the entire Bible. This event will come to pass after Jesus Christ reigns a thousand years on earth (the millennium), after the final revolt in which Satan is thrown into the lake of burning sulfur.

I know this is a subject people don't like to talk about but it must be known and understood, because eternity is a very long time and you'll decide where you will spent it!

I write this hub in the hope that you will seriously consider where you will spend eternity. "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness" (Genesis 1:26). "After our likeness", meaning that man has an eternal spirit. So, when the flesh dies, the spirit moves on but where does it go? Keep reading and I'll try to clarify the answer to this question.

Judgement day for the damned, also known as the 2nd resurrection is a time when all unredeemed souls (eternal bodies intact) are summoned to stand before the judgment seat of Christ. It will be the end of time as we know it.

The apostle John was given this revelation concerning the final judgement of the damned. This is what he saw as he was shown these future events...

"Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. Earth and sky fled from his presence, there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. The sea gave up the dead that were in it, death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them and each person was judged according to what they had done. Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire." (The lake of fire is the 2nd death, an eternal separation from God). "If anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, they were thrown into the lake of fire." The book of revelation 20:11-15

This scene depicts a dreadful courtroom setting of great magnitude, conducted by the highest authority. Where judgment and execution of sentence are carried out immediately. There are no appeals and no stay of execution, because nobody at the great white thrown judgment will have any grounds for complaint about their sentence.

Those who choose to reject the Lord's grace and mercy in this life will ultimately face His justice in the life to come. In other words, unrepentant sinners will experience the Holy One's justice at the great white throne judgment.

Written in the open books are names and detailed records of what each individual has done and said throughout their life. Also recorded in the books are the rippling affects of their wicked acts and influence. Yes indeed, the Lord does record all our deeds, what's more, the words that come out of our mouth.

Daniel 7:9-10 gives a similar description of the throne and the majesty of Him who sits on it.

"As I looked, thrones where set in place, the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was white as snow, the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire and it's wheels were all ablaze. A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him. Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated and the books were opened."

No wonder the earth and heavens are trying to flee from his presence, no mercy, no quarter, the opportunity of grace has long since ended and there will be no place to hide.

Revelation 1:13-15 is consistent with the description of the Ancient of Days. "And among the lamp-stands was someone like the Son of Man, dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. His head and hair were like wool, as white as snow and his eyes were like a blazing fire. His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters.

You may have heard that we are living in the "end times". I believe since the end is drawing near, the Lord is giving certain people a gimps of life after death through an out of body experience. I am hearing of testimonies more and more these days from people who have had this experience.

Where will you spend eternity?

Unto man it is appointed to die once then comes judgement

What Happens After Death

What happens after death, you ask? "Man is destined to die once and after that to face judgment." Hebrews 9:27. According to what the bible says, death takes the body to the grave where it decays, you probably know this to be true, right? But you may not know that the spirit goes to one of two places. This depends on whether or not Christ is in you and you are in Christ.

If Christ is not in you, than your spirit will go to Hades (Greek term for Hell) to be held until the Great WhiteThrone Judgement.

What happens to criminals who are charged with a crime? They are put in jail until they are brought before the judge. In this same manor the unsaved soul is put in Hades (without bail bond) until this soul is brought before the judge. The lake of fire is the eternal penitentiary, hell is just the county jail.

If Christ is in you and you are in Christ, your spirit will go to be with the Lord in peace and rest (read 2 Corinthians 5).

The Judge is Jesus Christ

You might be thinking, I thought Jesus was the Good Shepard, Lamb of God, Messiah and Redeemer. Yes, he is all these and more! He is also the judge of the living and the dead.

"The Father judges no one but has entrusted all judgment to the son." John 5:22

Listen beloved, whether you realize this or not, you have an appointment to meet Jesus Christ. This is a fact of life after death, not fiction. Let me ask you this... When you meet Jesus, would you prefer to see him as the Lamb of God or the Lion of Judah?

Who Will Be Summoned toThe Great White Throne Judgement?

Those Who Reject the Bible's Teachings

These are people who hate God, Jesus, the bible and those who spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. They stand with their chest out, nose in the air and raise their fist boldly saying, "I don't believe you exist, nor do you have any authority over me and I'll do whatever it takes to satisfy all of my desires." They blaspheme God the Father.

If not for the blood of Jesus Christ, we would all face the great white throne judgment.

Many refused to love the truth and so be saved. Because of this God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie (2 Thessalonians 2:11).

Some show their contempt for the bible by practicing "sophistry", which is a deliberately invalid argument displaying ingenuity in reasoning in the hope of deceiving someone. They are actually doing Satan's work.

Those Involved in the Occults

Supernatural practices and techniques are an abomination in the sight of the Lord. Dark mysteries are intriguing but they can also be very dangerous. More often than not, these practices lead into the demonic realm where an individual becomes entrapped.

Unfortunately, these lost people have sought after mystical knowledge such as palm reading, witchcraft, sorcery and other dark arts. These ancient arts do have mysterious powers, some believe that they can communicate with the spirit world but the spirits they communicate with are demonic whether they realize this or not.

How much is your soul worth? Are you willing to sell your soul to gain the world and in the end discover that you can't gain the world anyway?

A perfect example of this would be Adolf Hitler. If you have ever read any books or maybe you've seen a documentary on Hitler, you'll discover that he was involved in the occults and he was tormented to the point where it drove him mad.

The Self-Righteous

These folks are not compulsive sinners, to the contrary they are nice people. Many of them go to church on a regular basis. They think the gospel is for thieves, murderers, drunkards and morally deprived people. They drive nice cars, belong to fine clubs, they treat their children, friends and neighbors well. They're under the misconception that they don't need to be saved. They think they will make it to heaven on their own accord.

They haven't realized that the bible says "it's not by your righteousness that you are saved but by the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ and that our righteousness is looked upon as filthy rags by a Holy God." Some of these people are ego maniacs strutting on the road to hell like a proud roster.

The Procrastinators

They are the ones who want to be saved, they know that Jesus is the only way of salvation and they feel Christ calling them in their hearts but they just don't have the time to come to Him. They're caught up in worldly matters for the time being and Satan is whispering in their ear, "Wait till tomorrow."

Their thinking is that there will always be a tomorrow. That is being a little bit assuming, wouldn't you say? For the Lord says, "You know not what tomorrow brings." Death could be at their doorstep and if they die before excepting Jesus into their hearts, they will find themselves at the great white throne judgement.

Note: Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." John 14:6

Jesus is the only way to eternal life, he said so himself. He would not of said so if it where not true. Added to the list above is anyone who does not acknowledge Jesus Christ as their redeemer. This includes those who have never heard of the gospel or Jesus.

I can't emphasize enough the importance of your coming to Christ, it really is the most important decision of your life (where you will spend eternity). Oherwise you will perish. I know to some of you who read this, it sounds like some sort of mythology but it is the gospel truth.

All you have to do is ask Jesus to come into your heart, he will. Read the bible, it is ageless and timeless, by that I mean that it is as relevant today just as it was long ago. "Heaven and earth will pass away but my words will never pass away." Matthew 24:35

"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent (repent means to change your ways) . Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door to their heart, I will go in and eat with him and he with me." Revelation 3:19-20

I feel an obligation to warn anyone who will listen about the future Great White Throne Judgement. Trust me, you won't want to be there!

Final Thoughts

God's character as being the omnipotent, sovereign, holy and righteous Creator means that He must and will judge sinners. If the Lord of Hosts ignored sin, He would not be holy, righteous and true to His nature. The Lake of Fire has been prepared for the devil and his angels, awaiting those whom will one day face sentencing during the Great White Throne Judgment.

There is a great deal we can learn about our magnificent Creator by looking closely at His creation. Creation demonstrates for us the mystery of the resurrection while the bible shares with us how to know Jesus Christ personally, it is He who reveals to us the mystery of God. Read more...

Psalm 14:1 states, The fool says in their heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile, there is no one who does good.

The work of His hands (creation) is evidence of His existence! How is it that one can look at a building or an automobile and know that someone designed it but then look at the earth and the heavens and say that this all came about by chance?
